Marte Meo was developed by Marie Aarts in the late 1970s and early 1980s. 

Marte Meo is a video based method that helps support a child’s development through daily interaction. Marte Meo is Latin and its meaning is ‘one’s own strength’. With the Marte Meo approach information is found to improve the quality of daily interactions.  

Our Sunflower room leader Jo Rowell qualified firstly as a Marte Meo practitioner and then went on further to develop her skills and become a registered Marte Meo colleague trainer in May 2022. Jo can use information found in film of daily interactions between a practitioner and child to provide concrete information on how to support the development of a child in daily interactions and moments. When this information is also shared with parents it helps give a child the best possible chance in life.
